How AI Surveillance Helped Us Protect Tenants and Strengthen Downtown Portland Security

As a commercial real estate company with multiple office tenants, maintaining a secure and welcoming environment is one of our top priorities. Before partnering with Cloudastructure, we were noticing a real uptick in unwanted activity—especially around our downtown properties. Groups of people were gathering in storefronts, blocking building access, and at times entering our buildings to seek shelter, use drugs, or look for opportunities to steal items they could resell.

Rising Safety Concerns in Downtown Portland

Our tenants began voicing concerns that their employees no longer felt comfortable coming and going, especially after dark. That uncertainty affected their ability to attract and retain staff. As long-time managers and owners in Portland’s commercial real estate market, we know that if our tenants can’t thrive, neither can we. We began by implementing Cloudastructure’s AI-powered surveillance platform, which gave us smarter detection and better visibility into our properties. Not long after installation at one of our downtown office buildings, we experienced a break-in by a particularly resourceful intruder. At that time, we only had the AI surveillance system active—no monitoring yet. Using Cloudastructure’s intuitive video management tools, we quickly created a detailed playlist of footage for the police and our private security.

The following night, the same individual returned and attempted to force his way through a glass entry door. This time, our team was actively monitoring in real time and immediately called both our security personnel and the police. Thanks to the prior night’s footage and quick action, the suspect was arrested and later connected to several other break-ins in downtown Portland.

Adding Remote Guarding: From Reactive to Proactive

After that incident, we added Cloudastructure’s remote guard monitoring and two-way talk-down features, and the improvement was immediate. We’ve seen a dramatic reduction in trespassing and loitering, and our tenants have noticed too—they regularly tell us how much safer they feel knowing we have an intelligent, proactive security system watching over the property around the clock.
